December IHSW

I made a special effort to spend time with my wyrd needles for this IHSW weekend. For those who don’t know, IHSW stands for International Hermit and Stitch Weekend, and it is a time you give yourself permission to spend as much time as you choose to with your needles.

So this weekend I sewed a pair of pants and worked on Lizzie Kate’s Things Unseen Mystery Sampler while watching old Dark Shadows from Netflix. I don’t have a before photo, but here is where I left it off last night.

I also gave myself permission to spend a couple of hours reading Anne Bolyn by Evelyn Anthony. I just love historical novels, and the Tudors fascinate me. Next on my reading list is Mists of Avalon.

All in all, it was a very relaxing weekend!

Long time!

It has been a long time since I last posted! So much has happened in my life, 2012 seems very far away now.

I got a divorce and moved out to a little town about 30 minutes from Jackson in 2013. The divorce turned me inside out and upside down, even though I am the one who wanted it. The death of a 30 year marriage just isn’t easy, even though it was dying before I asked for the divorce. But I am much better now, I know this because I have picked my wyrd needles back up.

My first expression of my creativity brought back to life is my Autumn Earth Mama. Fall is my favorite time of year, and the colors of the changing leaves always inspire me, making me itch it translate them into fiber. So I pulled out my fabrics, and She was born. And I felt like I was reborn at the same time.

I then volunteered to pilot a stumpwork class for EGA. I am steadily working my way through the lessons, and it is a very good class. I am thoroughly enjoying it! Here are a couple of little samplers of some basic stumpwork motifs from the first and second lesson.

Tomorrow, my results from my IHSW!
